If You Have Granite Countertops, DON’T Do This

After remodeling your kitchen you want to be able to keep your Gilbert countertops looking new and staying functional for years to come. You have spent a lot of money on your countertops, so why not keep them in tip top shape by avoiding these few things.

When cleaning your granite countertop, don’t use cleaners such as glass cleaners, degreasers, or bleach. These products have acids and other chemicals in them that can scratch and damage the countertop surface. These products can also weaken the granite sealer, which can eventually leave your Gilbert countertops more prone to unwanted stains. Cleaners such as vinegar, ammonia, and citric acid cleaners like, lemon or orange, are also known to scratch the surface and deteriorate the sealer. Bathroom cleaners, as well as tile and grout cleaners in a powder or cream form, can not only scratch the surface, but dull it as well because they contain abrasives.

Another thing that you will not want to do in order to avoid damage to your Gilbert countertops is stand or sit on them. Standing or sitting on top of your granite countertop can cause cracks to occur. This is due to the fact that the countertop is hard, not flexible and it cannot handle all the weight in one spot. As said before granite countertops are very hard and heavy pieces of stone, so you will want to avoid dropping other hard items on the countertop because they may chipping or cracking.

Toiletry products such as hairspray, nail polish, lotions, perfumes, and colognes can cause damage to your Gilbert countertop. These products are stored on the countertops for long periods of time and can leak or spill, causing them to damage the sealer and cause stains and rings on the granite surface.

While it is ok to place hot pots and pans on your Gilbert countertop without causing any damage, try and avoid doing so as much as possible, at least in the same spot. This is because setting the hot pots and pans on the countertop will eventually cause a ring mark on the surface.
