Granite Countertop Maintenance – Making Them Last

Granite is a common choice for countertops in Gilbert, Arizona because of its durability and quality. Gilbert granite countertops are generally easy to maintain with their hardness and resistance to damage.

However to keep your Gilbert granite countertops looking great all time, you’ll need to do a few things to maintain them.

Granite Countertop Maintenance – Making Them Last

If you spill anything on your Gilbert granite countertops be sure to clean it up as soon as possible. To clean spills and stains from your Gilbert granite countertops use a clean cloth with a few drops of dishwashing detergent or mild soap.

Don’t let your countertops air dry or it will leave stains and watermarks. You can use a dry cloth to wipe up any residual water.

Don’t use any acidic cleaning products to clean your Gilbert granite countertops, as these can cause damage to the glossy surface of your granite. If you happen to spill vinegar or lemon juice or any other acidic substances on your Gilbert granite countertops be sure to clean it up right away to avoid any damage.

Oils and citrus products will also cause damage to your countertops if they are left to sit on your countertops, so clean those up quickly as well. For most spills you can use a sponge or cotton cloth to clean them.  Never use an abrasive material like steel wool or a scrubber.

Check the ingredients of your countertop cleaner to be sure that it does not have ammonia or another acidic byproduct. You can find a countertop cleaner that is designed to be used with stone, and it should mention on the box or bottle that it is safe to use with granite. If you aren’t sure just use a few drops of regular dishwashing detergent.

Most Gilbert granite countertops are sealed to offer an extra level of protection from stain damage. For sealed countertops and other Gilbert granite countertops you should never use an abrasive cleanser, as it can remove the seal.

To check whether your sealer is still on, drop a few drops of water on your countertop. If they bead up your sealer is still on, but if it soaks into the stone then you will need to have your countertops resealed.
